Newbury High School Academic Team Competes in Atlanta

The Newbury High School Academic Team participated in the 2015 NAQT Small School National Championship Tournament in Atlanta, GA April 25 – 26.

The team greatly improved over last year going 4-5 where they only went 1-8 the year before. This placed them 34th out of 60 teams in the competition.

In the overall tournament standings, sophomore Mak Sanders was ranked 31st out of 329 participants for points scored. This made him the 6th highest scorer among sophomores in the tournament.

The team took 6th place in their consolation round on Sunday. The team’s adviser, Taylor Schildhouse, could not be more proud of how the team performed in the tournament. While in Atlanta, the team also got to explore the city visiting the Atlanta Aquarium, Centennial Park, the CNN Building and other tourist attractions.

Tournament Start

The team would like to thank everyone who supported them and made contributions allowing them to be able to attend the tournament. There will be a meeting soon for the 8-11th graders to sign up to be a member of the 2015-2016 team as they start to prepare for the 2016 Championship Tournament.
