The 2014-2015 Walter/Horn Awards Outstanding Achievement Ceremony took place on April 29 at Auburn Career Center.

The awards ceremony recognizes students in Special Education in Lake and Geauga Counties for the achievements.

Kelsie Keyes, a senior at Newbury Local Schools, was one of 29 students recognized as a 2014-15 Outstanding Student.

Below is the excerpt of what her teachers submitted on Kelsie’s behalf:

Kelsie has grown into a mature young person, who will be graduating this June from Newbury. Her greatest achievement is her ability to self-advocate. She does not hesitate to ask questions about what she does not know and take the information she is given and do something positive with it. But most amazingly – she is an advocate for others in a very polite and mannerly way. She is exactly what is special when we use the term “special education”. We teach her, she learns from us. She teaches us, we learn from her. Congratulations, Kelsie!
