NDES Students Advance to the Ohio State Science Fair
On March 18th, NDES students, Amy Gabrovsek and Meghan Bhanoo, participated in District Science Day at the University of Akron. Meghan and Amy both received a Superior rating and will move on to the Ohio State Science Fair. They also received a $100.00 scholarship to Science Camp at Wooster College this summer.
Amy, an animal enthusiast, researched and proved that changes in a dog’s diet would affect the chemistry of a dog’s blood.
Meghan, researched and proved her hypotheses. It was estimated that the higher pressure of a ball would cause a ball to bounce higher. She also won 1st Place in the Physics category, received the Governor’s Award and American Society of Mechanical Engineers Award.
History gets Personal for NDES Students
Never forget! As part of the ELA curriculum focus on the holocaust, Mrs. Colleen Musial’s 6th-grade class came to life with a visit to the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage and a lecture by Sol Factor.
During their field trip to the museum, students gained a greater understanding of Jewish heritage and culture through exhibitions, interactives and films, oral histories, photographs, and artifacts. The very next week, they attended a lecture by Sol Factor, a professor of Jewish studies at Kent State University, in which he presented information and discussed the roles and challenges children faced during the holocaust. Factor is a child of a holocaust survivor and shared his personal story.
Through literature, field trips and lectures, students not only discover the facts about the holocaust and World War II, but they make personal connections with people from the past whose lives were impacted by the holocaust.
Under the Sea Spectacular
Bravo! On March 30th – April 1st, 2017, the NDES Drama Club present “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” Under the direction of Mr. David Malinowski and in partnership with the Fine Arts Association, student actors from grade 3 – 8 brought the story of a beautiful young mermaid and the magical kingdom under the sea to life.
