Third Graders Bring Books to Life

Students presented their projects, which included characters from books like “The World According to Humphrey” and the Harry Potter series among others, to their peers.
Fourth Graders Opinion on Solar Cars Featured on PBS Program
Congratulations to 4th grader Sakena W. – she recently had her opinion featured on the WVIZ/PBS ideastream program NewsDepth! NewsDepth is an instructional product that connects students to learning standards. Each weekly episode features vocabulary development, extended information about current news topics, writing prompts, and links to instructional resources and activities. Mrs. Torre’s classes watch the programs every week and then write opinion letters to get students involved in the content. 3 – 5 students then have their comments featured and read aloud in a future episode. Sakena’s opinion about solar cars was published in the October 13th episode! Sakena says she was so excited and so surprised to see her comment on the screen! Way to go Sakena!

Middlefield Rec Football Team Goes Undefeated – AGAIN!

Third Graders Grow In Science at Holden Arboretum
Recently our 3rd graders went for their Growing Students in Science program at The Holden Arboretum. The third grade is in their second year of the program. At the time of the trip students were studying the forest floor. Prior to the trip, students heard the book, “The Gift of the Tree” so while at Holden students rolled over logs and searched for the animals and plant life they read about in the book. They also learned about chipmunks and how they prepare for the winter. Students brought back soil samples from Holden for study in class.

CMS Animal Club Hosts County Dog Warden
Did you know- there’s an Animal Club at CMS?! There is, and recently the group had Matt Granito from the Geauga County Dog Shelter & Warden’s Office come and talk about what the dog warden does, what people should do when they think a dog might be lost and what people should do if their own dog gets lost. He also talked to them about what kind of college classes they would want to take if they were interested in becoming a dog warden. Granito also brought Prairie with him to visit the class. Prairie is the shelter’s oldest and longest resident. He is available for adoption. Animal Club is also collecting donations for the Geauga Dog Warden and for Rescue Village for the remainder of the school year.
Donations can be sent in with Cardinal Middle School students and placed in the Animal Club Donation Box that is located in the office.
