Brisk air, changing colors, wagon rides and harvest bounty treats – Geauga Park District’s free Fall Fest, this year at Swine Creek Reservation, will have all these things and more for the whole family to enjoy!

Fall Fest will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation, 16004 Hayes Road in Middlefield.

Dedication of the new south section of The Maple Highlands Trail, which starts at Swine Creek Reservation, kicks off this second annual event at 3 p.m. First-come, first-served horse-drawn wagon rides from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. are among the most special features, as they haven’t been offered by the Park District in more than a decade until just last year. Go right to the ticket booth when you arrive to get your name in for a designated time; a naturalist will be on board as you ride – clip clop, clip clop – to share signs of the season.

Fall Fest this year will also feature kayaking and fishing on the pond, hands-on activity stations including “The Spider Spot,” live music by the Oak Island Skunk Jumpers (old-time string band), a corn box (like a sandbox, but filled with corn kernels), face-painting, balloon art, plein aire painting demonstrations, a campfire, s’mores, other treats for sale and more.

Mountain Road Cycles will have a display at the event, along with a certified bicycle mechanic on site. Guaranteed there will never be a shortage of things to do. Wear your Halloween costumes to add to the Fall Fest fun!

Then, at 7 p.m., join a naturalist for a night hike into the woods, where you’ll let your eyes adjust and then delve into the darkness unaided by a flashlight just like the owls and bats we will be learning about. (Don’t be scared; trust us, it works.)
