Notre Dame Recognized as 2014 National Blue Ribbon School

Notre Dame Elementary School, a Sisters of Notre Dame sponsored school, in Chardon is one of 14 Ohio schools being awarded the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award for 2014! NDES is being recognized as an Exemplary High Performing School.

On Tuesday, September 30, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized 337 American schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2014 based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve to high levels. The award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.

The U.S. Department of Education will honor the 287 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 10-11 in Washington, D.C. In its 32-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on less than 7,900 of America’s schools.

Future Leaders of Tomorrow

Notre Dame Elementary School held their 2014-2015 Student Council Elections on September 23. All candidates from fifth through eighth grade prepared speeches that focused on their goals for the school for the upcoming year. The candidates then presented their speeches to the students during an assembly. On October 3, all Student Council Board and members were inducted at a school-wide Mass.

Fourth Grade Hands-On Math

Notre Dame Elementary School fourth grade students use manipulatives to support their understanding and visualization of math concepts. The students are also working on numbers in the millions and learning about decimals on the place value chart. The fourth grade students even designed a place value chart which helps them learn to categorize numbers.

NDES Blesses our “Furry Friends”

On October 4, NDES held a pet blessing for all of our families’ “furry friends.” This wonderful tradition is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.
