Observatory Park Will Host First Dancing Under the Stars Event on Saturday, September 2nd

Put on your dancing shoes to enjoy a night of moving and grooving under faraway stars seen clearly from your International Dark Sky Park!

Geauga Park District’s Observatory Park will host its first Dancing Under the Stars evening on Saturday, September 2nd, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Registration is required at Geauga Park District or 440-286-9516, with a $10.00 fee that includes light snacks, for instruction and demos till 8:00 p.m. by Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Chagrin Falls, followed by open floor dancing.

For years, Geauga Park District’s Naturalist Department had been kicking around the idea of a Dancing With the Stars spin-off at Observatory Park. “This year, I decided we would make it happen,” said Naturalist Nora Sindelar, program host. “Although we can’t provide famous celebrities, we do have an excellent venue with magnificent stars!”

Music will likely run in the rumba and salsa vein, being that this is one of the easiest and most popular dances, said Shannon Taylor, owner of Fred Astaire Dance Studio.

“The energy and joy that dancing brings to our lives is electric,” said Shannon. “Add the outdoors, gorgeous stars, perfect weather – you’ve got a recipe for an absolute masterpiece.”

Instruction will include the rotation of partners, so no partner is necessary to enjoy the evening. Plus, those without partners have a better chance of dancing with the professionals!

Activities will be partially wheelchair/stroller accessible, and will be canceled in the case of severe weather. Feel free to call with any questions you may have before registering.
