Out of the Snow Capital and into the Open Seas!

With the average annual snowfall for Geauga County at 66.21” (Some would argue on this point! Seems a little low…) as compared to 26.63” for Ohio in general and 23.27” for the whole country, Geaugans earn their right to a warm sunny vacation each summer! Now is the perfect time to start planning not only your summer vacations, but fall and next winter as well. (Yes people – next winter will come!) It’s no wonder cruises book up quickly; they’re probably full of fellow thawing snow people!

It’s never too early to start planning!

It’s never too early to start planning,” shares local travel agent owner Laura Holcomb from Memories and Moments Travel. This month we will take a quick look at what some of our preferred cruise lines have to offer, in their own words, along with a special cruise that we are hosting for some lucky Geauga County friends!” Go ahead and feast your eyes, folks! It’s been a long time coming!

Disney Cruise Line

Castaway CayConsistently rated by Disney Guests as their favorite port of call, Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island paradise reserved exclusively for Disney cruisers. This oasis invites you to enjoy balmy tropical weather and world-class recreation with renowned Disney hospitality. Plus, your signature Disney ship will dock right at the island to allow everyone to come and go as they please while enjoying such tropical leisure as snorkeling, boating, swimming and old-fashioned sunbathing.

Formerly known as Gorda Cay, the island is located amid the Abaco Islands in the northern Bahamas. Of the island’s 1,000 acres, only 55 have been developed for Guest use, leaving the remaining land unspoiled and untamed. Covered outdoor restaurants dish up delectable burgers, BBQ chicken and ribs, grilled island style and included in the price of your cruise package. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase by Guests 21 years of age or older. Disney Imagineers designed Castaway Cay with one-of-a-kind areas and activities for every member of the family.

  • Kids (ages 3-12) have their paradise planned by Disney counselors at Scuttle’s Cove with bountiful beach activities.
  • Teens can kick back, listen to music and participate in activities at Hideout, their own secluded area close to the beach.
  • Serenity Bay is a secluded beach exclusively for adults.
  • Have fun together at the Castaway Family Beach.
  • And of course, there are port adventures for everyone to enjoy.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line

Royal CaribbeanBeyond their tropical paradise settings, these islands are home to rich culture and complex histories. Explore archaic ruins, sunny beaches, rainforests and numerous waterfalls. It’s a lot to pack for but definitely worth the trip. Spend a fun-filled afternoon at our floating Aqua Park in Labadee, a private destination available only to Royal Caribbean guests. We like to think we’re inclusive but, admittedly, that’s only for our guests. Which makes us kind of exclusive.

Holland America

AlaskaCome face to face with a gigantic wall of ice that fills your view and extends for miles in either direction. Hubbard Glacier is a titan on the move, advancing faster than almost any other glacier on the continent. When it begins to disgorge its ice, by this point 400 years old, into the salt water at Disenchantment Bay, this behemoth is five miles wide and 40 stories high. It dwarfs ships. As you glide along, watch for seals basking on ice floes, listen for the loud, deep rumble and wait for the mighty crack and thunderous crash.

Norwegian Cruise Line

HawaiiWith Freestyle Cruising and our unique 7-day Hawaii vacations, you get the option of overnights in both Maui and Kauai as well as visits to Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii. You’ll be on island time as you discover cascading waterfalls, active volcanoes, black, green and white sand beaches, historic sites and unspoiled nature. And if you’re a golfer, we’ve partnered with some of the best golf courses on all four islands.
