Popcorn For Teddy Bears

Park fifth graders just concluded their annual popcorn business, where they sold fresh popcorn to students and staff on Friday afternoons during the month of May. The Park fifth grade class has conducted the business for over 16 profitable years. Each year the students are able to apply their learned economic knowledge to a real business. All fifth graders are involved in all aspects of the business, from sales, money collection, popcorn preparation, distribution, advertisement, and accounting. Besides learning about economics, the popcorn business has a second purpose. The profits help children in need. For the last several years the class has used the money raised to buy teddy bears for children at Geauga Hospital. They learned real-world business principles, gave back to their community and enjoyed some great tasting popcorn, too!
