Novelty, OH ~ On Tuesday, August 23rd Rescue Village received a transport of 27 puppies and adult dogs who traveled from flooded animal shelters in Louisiana, to Atlanta Georgia, and finally to Rescue Village, one of the leading animal shelters in Northeast Ohio.
Now they are going through medical and behavioral assessments before they will be ready to be adopted. Rescue Village expects that some of the puppies could be ready for adoption as early as this weekend but most will take longer depending on the medical care needed. The 27 pups will not be put up for adoption all at once. Instead, they will be posted for adoption as they complete their assessments and any necessary medical treatment, over the course of the next few weeks.
This transport illustrates the importance of partnerships among the large network of animal shelters across the country. The dogs and puppies were initially rescued from flooded animal shelters near Lafayette, Louisiana by Arcadiana Animal Aid who worked to transport them and others across the country. This included Atlanta Humane Society, a shelter from whom Rescue Village regularly receives transports.
Just over a year ago, Rescue Village underwent a major renovation and expansion project which has allowed the shelter to have the room and resources to take on these displaced animals and find them forever homes right here in Northeast Ohio.
Rescue Village touches the lives of over 4,000 animals each year. To make a general donation or one specific to the Louisiana rescue dogs at Rescue Village, please visit www.geaugahumane.org.
