“You can’t change your past, but you can change your future.”
That was the message motivational speaker Reggie Dabbs wanted to get across to the students of Cardinal Local School District when he visited on April 10, 2014.
Dabbs captured the attention of students from all grade levels with his stunning performances of popular songs such as “You’re Amazing” by Bruno Mars and “Bless the Broken Road” by the Rascal Flatts on the alto saxophone. He made students laugh with his life is a rollercoaster metaphor, urging students to not get off the ride of life, and he made many cry with his own touching life story. He even persuaded several teachers to do a rap for the students! But whether he was playing the saxophone, joking around, or speaking seriously, the theme of the day remained constant – “Never give up.”
