Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village is currently working to assist animals from shelters in Texas and Louisiana that are being flooded by Hurricane Harvey.
In the current situation, Rescue Village’s partner shelters are working to prepare animals for transport and are unsure of how long it will take for them to arrive. We are in touch with the Houston SPCA and others with our offers to assist.
“In response to the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, Rescue Village is opening its doors to animals in need of life-saving support” said Hope Brustein, Executive Director of Rescue Village. “This is a complex situation on the ground, including the crucial efforts to reunite animals with their owners. There will no doubt be a large number of dogs and cats who need to find safe haven and new homes far outside the flood zones. We are in touch with the Houston SPCA and other shelters, including in Louisiana. Our hearts go out to the people and animals facing such dire circumstances,” said Brustein.
Last year, at around this same time, Rescue Village took in and re-homed dogs from shelters affected by the severe
flooding in Louisiana. They hope to help in a similar way this year and take in and re-home both dogs and cats affected by Hurricane Harvey.
