Every year, Rescue Village participates in ASPCA’s National Help a Horse Day, a celebration and educational campaign across the country promoting equine welfare. This year’s main event will take place this Sunday, April 29th from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Rescue Village.
This is a free event and is complete with fun and educational activities for kids and families alike. Visitors will get the chance to meet Rescue Village adoptable and ambassador horses and barn animals and have the opportunity to learn all about the Rescue Village barn program.
Help a Horse Day will also include: a Chinese Raffle, a food truck with cruelty-free eats, our first ever “Cake Trot,” lawn games and activities, demonstrations of acupuncture and equine massage from our sponsor ESP Alternative LLC, and Rescue Village apparel, original artwork and other items for sale – all to benefit the barn program at Rescue Village.
Rescue Village is the only humane society in Northeast Ohio with a barn program. In 2017, we found homes for 145 barn animals. The horses Rescue Village takes in are often the most costly residents because of their size, living expenses, and because they often come from humane cases, the extra care needed to rehabilitate them before being placed up for adoption is much higher.
Rescue Village is also offering a Help a Horse Seminar & Social Hour event on Friday, April 27th from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. This presentation will be an in-depth review of all the equine cases we have taken on in the last year. The speakers will be the Rescue Village Barn Program Manager, Adrianne Johnson, Rescue Village Humane Agent, Christian Courtwright, and one of our regular equine veterinarians. While Help a Horse Day on Sunday, April 29th is open for all ages, we ask that attendees of the Help a Horse Seminar & Social Hour be ages 21 or older.
More details about both events can be found at: National Help a Horse Day
