Rescue Village & PetFix Help Low Income Families

Rescue Village wants to help all pet owners be able to keep their pets. But sometimes circumstances can make that very difficult. Many organizations are dedicated to making pet ownership possible and affordable. PetFix Northeast Ohio is one of those.

PetFix is a 501.c.3 non-profit organization dedicated to ending pet overpopulation in the region by promoting the importance of spay/neuter and making spay/neuter surgeries affordable and accessible to:

  • pet owners
  • feral cat caregivers
  • shelters, rescues, and animal control agencies placing animals for adoption

By traveling to designated locations with their mobile van and performing spay neuter services for low income families, they are contributing a much needed service to area pet owners who qualify. It’s a fantastic idea that has taken off and is lessening the financial burden on families while at the same time reducing the overpopulation problem that exists everywhere.

Rescue Village and PetFix Northeast Ohio have teamed up to help stop pet overpopulation by bringing the mobile van to the Geauga County area as well. You DO NOT have to live in Geauga County to use this clinic!

On October 30 at the Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village, you can bring in your dog or cat for a ‘fix’ at a very reduced rate by making an appointment now. Fees vary by animal’s gender and weight and range from $30-$70.

I recently had the privilege of entering the PetFix mobile unit and watching the whole process. Dogs and cats are brought into this very sterile and highly organized unit where a doctor and two assistants prepare them for the surgery. They are very careful and experts at handling all sizes and types of animals and truly love their work!

I was amazed at the efficiency inside such a small space. Careful attention is paid to each pet from the time they enter until they are brought back into the hosting shelter where they are transported to and from by volunteers. I was able to chat with the three ladies the whole time they worked and was very impressed with the whole ‘operation.’ Professional, friendly, loving care at an affordable price is hard to come by these days!

For more information, call Rescue Village at 440-338-4819 ext. 14, or email programs@geaugahumane.org. Appointments must be scheduled in advance. There are several locations around NE Ohio that provide this service on a regular basis.
