Geauga’s own wildlife miracle: Ohio’s only known native brook trout population.
Photos of these colorful fish are always a treat, but have you ever seen one in person? Would you like to meet one?
Geauga Park District’s All About the Brook Trout event will be held on Thursday, June 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bass Lake Preserve, Lodge, 11445 Lakeview Road, Munson Township.
The presentation part of this program, hosted by Senior Naturalist Dan Best, will focus on brook trout ecology and the discovery, protection and successful propagation of the Geauga population.
The persistence of Geauga’s brook trout to become Ohio’s only remaining population is an amazing saga of Ice Age origins, snow belt climate and bedrock geology. It is also an example of determined conservation work by an alliance of wildlife and environmental agencies and organizations that united to protect this magnificent hallmark of our wildlife heritage.
The kicker will be the netting of live specimen in one of the rare locations these fish call home.
The lodge is wheelchair/stroller accessible. Call 440-286-9516 with questions.
