Spring break is right upon us, but the prospect of having everyone home for a week with nothing to do might leave you feeling baffled and slightly overwhelmed – especially if you’re on a budget. Here are some great tips to keep your kids entertained and your pockets full at the same time:
The Geauga Parks
The parks are personally my favorite thing about living in Geauga County. They have lots of things to keep your family entertained, like a nature style Egg Hunt at the West Woods Park. There’s also the Sky Tonight Planetarium Show at Observatory Park. To register for these (and more) events, make sure to check out the Geauga Parks website.
Tip: You can also create a game to play while you take a walk in the woods.
If your family prefers to stay inside, try spending some time watching something on TV. Go to your local library (or use Netflix, Hulu, etc) and pick out a bunch of movies or shows to watch together. If you don’t like that idea, then you can do a book marathon, where you try and see who can read the most books over spring break.
Tip: Try combining the two. Pick a book to read, and then get the movie version to watch after you’ve finished the book. Then, discuss the differences.
Arts and Crafts
It’s amazing what you can do with some paper and the right materials. Whether you’re just breaking out the old coloring books or cupcake designs, doing something to encourage your kids to be creative and use their imaginations is a great way to have fun. There are tons of resources online, and some ideas you would have never thought of trying – so get cracking!
Tip: If your child is older, try using free guides online to learn a new craft together – like crocheting.
Getting Out of the House
Geauga is absolutely filled to the brim with fun and exciting tourism spots, some you may not have ever heard of before, and all at reasonable prices. There’s the Century Village Museum, or even a show at the Geauga Theatre.
There are tons of ways to enjoy spring break at home without spending a ton of cash. So, gather your family together, get creative and have some fun!
