Spring Tour a Huge Success!

Geauga County Tourism’s Spring Drive-it-Yourself Tour definitely lived up to its theme of ‘Keeping Geauga Green’ as approximately 500 participants traveled throughout the county exploring locally owned businesses and spending money along the way.

“Someone compared the day to a county-wide Cash Mob,” says Lynda Nemeth, Geauga County Tourism Director. “I think that is a great perspective, especially with our economy improving and consumers ready to support small businesses!”

This annual tour celebrates National Tourism Week and brought participants from all over Northeast Ohio to explore Geauga County. It also took a lot of Geauga County residents into shops they ‘drive by every day’ and just never have stopped in before, including this year’s Grand Prize winner Sheryl Gusler of Middlefield. Gusler works for Geauga News and combined a little work and fun into her day as she took pictures along the way of all of her stops. Her hard work paid off, as her prize basket full of Geauga County gifts and certificates was worth over $540!

Taking home the 2nd Place Basket valued over $340 was Art Colton of Mentor who was also very happy he decided to join the tour. 3rd Prize, valued over $280 went to Jason Marous, who is a veteran when it comes to touring Geauga County. Jason and his mother had won a prize in the 2010 Geauga County Fall Scavenger Hunt.

Over 300 participants made it back to the Finale by 4 p.m. with a valid map of at least 10 Stops visited. In the crowd were Lori and Brittany Gorrell who visited all 25 stops for the second year in a row, and Hank and Dianne Myers who also made it to every stop. The Mentor Baptist Church Senior Group also carpooled through the tour with 16 people in their group! You can see photos of the day by going to the Geauga County Facebook page.
