On October 15, 2014, the Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities celebrated the completion of its housing project, providing homes for 24 individuals with developmental disabilities to live more independently.

County Commissioners Mary Samide and Blake Rear joined us for the ribbon cutting ceremony, as well as our special guest, State Director John Martin. It was the first time in the history of Geauga County that a State Director of Developmental Disabilities has visited. Director Martin was also excited about our finished homes and he spoke about his vision for the future of county boards of developmental disabilities during the ceremony.
“I want to thank Director Martin for taking time out of his busy schedule to help us celebrate the completion of this project,” said Superintendent Don Rice. “This building effort has allowed us to provide our residents with housing that is even better suited for their specific needs.”
The renovations began in September 2013 at a total cost of $1.5 million to complete. The entire cost will be reimbursed through Medicaid over time, due to depreciation. “As Board President, I’m really proud that we are able to provide our clients with these remodeled homes,” said Nanette Warholic. “Through collaboration with the County Commissioners, I think we’ve succeeded in improving the quality of life for those we serve, and for that I am truly grateful.” Thanks to Director Martin and County Commissioners Samide and Rear for celebrating with us!
