Rescue Village has officially kicked off their #GivingTuesday campaign by sharing “#TailsOfGivingTuesday,” stories told every Tuesday from now until #GivingTuesday (November 29th) of animals who have passed through our doors and left big paw prints on our hearts.
This week, was the story of Rosco, a senior dog who came to us after his elderly owner passed away. Large senior dogs can often be much more difficult to find homes for and Rosco was no exception. He waited for months for someone to adopt him and became more and more depressed as each day passed. Maybe he was looking for his owner to return, maybe shelter life was just too stressful, but Rosco became so depressed that he often laid on the ground for hours, even days at a time and simply refused to get up. Our staff and volunteers couldn’t even get him to go outside most days. As the holiday season began, we feared Rosco wouldn’t find his forever family before the new year.
Then on, December 19th, 2015, less than one week before Christmas, the seemingly impossible happened. Rosco was not only adopted; he was adopted by relatives of his former owner! His new family had seen Rescue Village’s posts on social media about how sad he was and how long he had been here, recognized him, and just had to bring him home with them for Christmas.
We often get senior animals like Rosco who wait much longer to find homes than most. As the holiday season approaches, we ask the public to please consider making a donation on #GivingTuesday or starting a fundraiser now to help us reach our $20,000.00 goal for animals like Rosco.
We sent Rosco home for the holidays last year. Help us send animals home for the holidays this year and after the holidays in 2017.
