The ART of ST*ART*

Loosely throwing ideas around, I’ve come to realize that there is so much about art we can learn and share with each other – not just with other artists, but with those who wish to become artists, as well as those who admire and appreciate art. Since this is my first “official” news article on art, I’ve been a whirling dervish thinking of what I could say;

-Introduce myself?
-Give credentials? (none but my desire)
-Highlight my own work so I can somehow prove myself worthy? (that’s my own hang-up)
-Highlight a local artist’s work?
-Give resource info…what to do…how to start?

Then it occurred to me – this is exactly what doing art itself is like;

You have an idea you’d like to convey, but the hardest part is the STARTING.

Do other artists suffer this affliction? Someone once said to me that to start, you just do. I rolled my eyes (mentally), but then tried it anyway and had an epiphany: That ‘start’ is a metaphor for anything we have difficulty with.

START SOMEWHERE

Oil Painting by Faith Bond

With the advent of the internet, the world has truly been opened up to us. Art is an integral part of life, and I hope that by sharing what others have learned along the way, we can help enlighten or re-energize each other,
-in our pursuit of understanding art,
-how we look at art (our own in particular),
-and even how to use different mediums, in pursuit of creating art.

I’m not going to try to define for you what any particular artist felt when making a piece, so don’t look for that here. Consider this as another teaching tool, if you will. Together we will discover:

(1) Resources on the internet

(2) What those resources offer

(3) The importance of being open to new ideas, new ways to open us up, and to help round out our skill-set

We will begin our journey next month.  I look forward to seeing where this will take us!
