The Best Job and… a Tree of Carpet?

Part one of a three part series

I would like to start this story by saying I have the BEST JOB! I started with Geauga News back in June of 2012. Originally, I joined the team to help keep Gabe organized, maintain his schedule, and help around the office. I had worked for Rachel for years at Punderson, and she thought I would be a perfect fit for the job. Rachel has always been an amazing boss. She does whatever she can to make her employees feel comfortable, happy, and appreciated. She even bought me a bean bag chair that I wanted, and we set my computer up on a folding table that was low to the ground propped up on files boxes. It was perfect for me (it doesn’t take much to make me happy). I was comfortable and happy and that was all that mattered to Gabe and Rachel. And that I got my work done, of course.

My job title has changed several times over the past year. Currently, I am the social media and content manager as well as a creative designer for Geauga News, Portage News, Lake News, and for tEkk3, which is one of Gabe’s other businesses. Recently, I was given the option to work from home. I am thrilled to stay at home in my PJs all day. I am able to take little breaks to switch the laundry, do some dishes, and get some things done around the house during the day. I think that’s a pretty great deal!

My view

Each day I wake up, and head straight for my computer. My desk sits in an east facing bay window on the second floor of my house. The AC is in the window directly behind my chair to keep me and my computer cool during those hot summer days. There is a large picture window to my left which looks out over a not so nice vacant house next door. But, if I look past that house, there is a beautiful view of the lake in my community. In front of me is another window which is almost always open to let in the fresh air. Next to that window, is a tree covered in carpet.

I would imagine that the picture that you have in your head is one of two things:

  • This lady is crazy! Why does she have a tree made of carpet in her house?
  • She must have at least one cat in her house.

Well, if you were thinking the second scenario, then you are correct. Although, after reading this series, the first option may be correct also. I do have two adorable kitties at home. Sometimes, as I am working away in my little bay window office, I watch and listen to my cats and wish that I could trade places with them, even if it was just for a day. My cats are quite spoiled, so being in their “paws” for just a day sounds like a great getaway from the stresses and responsibilities of everyday life.
