On Tuesday, July 21, the GANG (Geauga Arts Network Group) program will take place at the Geauga County Dog Shelter & Warden’s facility at 12513 Merrit Road in Chardon, Ohio. The program, which is open to the community, will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end by 8 p.m.

Featured artist Anita Silverman will be doing quick sketches “on the spot” of dogs currently in residence. Her drawings, in a variety of media including colored pencil, charcoal, and marker, will “go home” with each dog as adoptions occur.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a monetary donation for the Shelter or a donation from its Wish List, which includes leashes, collars, paper towels, Lysol, laundry soap, dryer sheets, Nature’s Miracle, straw, Pupperoni, rawhide and soft chewies. For a complete Wish List or to preview the dogs currently in residence, visit the Geauga County Dog Shelter page on Facebook and click on the www.petfinder.com link in the “About” summary on the left side of the page.

Although dog adoptions cannot be finalized that evening, Mary Bittence, the Shelter’s fund-raising and development volunteer, will be on hand to share information about the dogs, provide the necessary forms, and accept deposits. Light refreshments will be served as visitors stroll the grounds, following the artist as she works. Seating is limited, so visitors are requested to bring their own folding chair.

Silverman is a life-long animal artist and animal lover who will be sharing stories throughout the evening about her own love of animals and the techniques she uses to bring them to life on paper. A resident of Chesterland, she has an assortment of rescued cats and two rescued dogs at home.

In addition to her artistic representations of animals, Silverman works in a variety of media including collage, memorial stones, and “bling” jewelry crafted from natural objects such as beach glass. She is a popular artist at fund-raising events, where she donates her work to raise community awareness and appreciation of causes she fervently supports.

The Geauga Arts Network Group is an ad hoc group whose mission is to promote communication, collaboration, and cooperation across artistic disciplines for artists living and/or working in Geauga County. For further information, contact Joanne Durante, 440-729-6481.
