The 3rd graders might not have access to the Science Lab at the CCLC, but that’s not going to stop them from performing experiments.
Third graders are studying plants and their adaptations in their online science classroom. Tuesday is still lab day and students were given experiments to do at home.
The first week they studied the inside of seeds and how seed dispersal helps plants survive and reproduce. They made paper helicopters to mimic how seeds from a maple tree spread far from the parent plant. Students send in videos of their helicopters flying.
The second week, they performed experiments to show how stems move water up the plant. They used cups, paper towels and colored water. It was a very colorful lesson on stems and mixing colors.
On April 22, Miss Barb Tropf challenged her students to do something for the planet on Earth Day. Students had different activities to choose from like: make a poster, bird watch, go for a walk, clean up trash in their yard, watch Geauga Park District videos on nature craft or signs of spring. Students could pick from those or create their own.

Soil was the next lesson for the curious 3rd graders. For the Lab, they went outside and scooped up some soil on a plate. Then they examined it carefully to see what makes up soil. Students then reported to Science Lab Live where they shared with each other what the findings of their experiment was.
