Geauga Growth is excited to announce this year’s HomeGrown Geauga entertainment will include none other than Magician Rick Smith Jr. As a Guinness Book of World Records Holder, and guest performer on shows like “ABC’s Shark Tank”, “America’s Got Talent”, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and more, Rick Smith Jr. is revered as a hometown success story.
Dabbling in magic since he was 7 years old, Rick Smith has built a complex portfolio of illusions and mastered the sleight of hand. His career began to take off as he performed regularly for family gatherings and children’s parties, and used his entrepreneurial spirit to find work in many similar events.
However, it wasn’t until his time as a pitcher at Cleveland State University that he broke through the scene with an incredible accident. Smith discovered a new talent in the baseball locker room during a “sock fight” – he threw a card at his teammate after running out of socks, cutting the teammate’s arm. Rick Smith Jr developed this new element of his career, quickly gaining national attention for his talent. By 2002, he threw a playing card 216 feet and 4 inches, earning him recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest, farthest, and most accurate card throwing technique.
