Tune Traders: New and Improved

Revamped format nurtures better quality music while still allowing for jam

A revamped format has breathed new life into the Maple Town Tune Traders, a program for singers and musicians that recurs the fourth Thursday of each month from 7 to 10 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.

When they arrive, participants now sign up for one of six 15-minute informal performance spots, which is then followed by a brief intermission, then a round-robin jam session.

“This may be even more inviting to both performers and listeners,” said Senior Naturalist Dan Best, a musician himself, who has hosted the program since its inception. “The quality of music is better than ever.”

Spring 2014 Tune Traders sessions are Thursdays, April 24, May 22 and June 26. All musical genres on acoustic or gently amplified instruments are welcome, as well as snacks to share with the group.

Registration is not required to attend to either perform or listen; performance spots are first come-first served, though. The nature center is fully wheelchair/stroller accessible.
