The Cardinal Huskies soccer team improved to 5-0 with wins this week over Grand Valley, Paineville Harvey, and Bloomfield.
The Huskies beat Grand Valley on Saturday by a score of 4-1. Micah Breyley led the scoring with 2 goals and an assist. Ian Mast had a goal and 2 assists. Gary Lundstrom scored on a penalty kick.
The Huskies beat the Harvey Red Raiders in an exciting match on Tuesday, 3-1.
On Thursday, Cardinal beat Bloomfield 9-2. Micah Breyley scored 2 goals and had an assist. Ian Mast, Jacob Bechter, Gary Lundtrom, Brandon Wicks, Trent Mast, Erin Ross, and Cole Zemelka also scored goals for the Huskies.
No meets this week
After losing to Cuyahoga Heights and Lutheran West on Saturday August 30, the Huskies rebounded with a win over Harvey on Tuesday, improving to 1-0 in the CVC. Alyssa Shirkey was 21 for 22 hitting with 11 kills to lead the Huskies attack at the net. Caitlin Lechene was unstoppable serving with a total of 17 aces and 30 points. Maddie Bean was nearly perfect setting with 19 assists.
The Huskies defeated Edgewood on Wednesday in 3 sets. Alyssa Shirkey led the attack at the net with 16 kills with Kaitlin Bean adding 9 kills. Caitlin Lechene took care of the serving for the Huskies by adding 4 Aces. She also denied Edgewood at the net with 7 Solo Blocks. Kayla Neikirk and Alyssa Shirkey both helped the Huskies back row with 9 digs each. The Varsity team travels to Chardon on Saturday for the Hilltopper Invitational. Match play starts at 9 am.
Also this week, the Huskies Volleyball team began a new program called “Paws for Reading.” Varsity players go to Jordak Elementary School on the day of home games to read to elementary students. They did this for the first time on Wednesday, September 4, and it was a great success.
