The Upper School at Hershey Montessori will bring to the stage a completely student-produced production of The Importance of Being Earnest May 5 – 7. This is the second production entirely produced, directed and performed by the students at Hershey Upper School.
Hershey Montessori Upper School, which launched in the 2015-16 school year with its first class of 10th graders, operates on Hershey’s 97-acre campus in Huntsburg, Ohio. As part of their educational experience, students are encouraged to pursue jobs as managers around the farm campus. As theater and arts manager, Cameron Zona is producing, directing his classmates and acting in a lead role in Oscar Wilde’s comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest. Wilde would be proud to know that, 122 years after his play was first staged, young adults are taking on his work.
This is the second time Zona, has led Hershey students in an ambitious theatrical performances. In the 2015-16 school year, he directed and acted in Ira Levin’s Death Trap. Theater is a personal passion for Zona, who has performed in several regional theater productions throughout Northeast Ohio.
This play is a unique opportunity to see a play in which students, alone, are responsible for every aspect of directing, acting, planning, concessions, props and marketing – including the distribution of this press release. Performances will be at the Huntsburg Campus, located at 11530 Madison Road in Huntsburg, 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6, and at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7.
