Visit the Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve for Possible Views of Returning Great Blue Herons

Venture off trail at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve with a Geauga Park District naturalist to the site of a heron nesting colony for possible views of returning Great Blue Herons!

This rare opportunity is available by registration only during a Backcountry Heron Hike on Saturday, March 17th, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

At 15681 Old Rider Road, Burton Wetlands is a new location for the Park District’s annual heron hike, offering all-new views of an established nesting site just across the parks’ border, according to Naturalist Dottie Drockton, who will host the hike. The hike also visits parts of the park rarely seen by park visitors to the nature preserve.

Participants should prepare for a roughly two-mile round-trip hike to and from the nesting site, as well as wet, muddy conditions with uneven terrain. To join in, please register at Geauga Park District or 440-286-9516, or call that number with questions in advance.
