Visit Observatory Park when the Partial Lunar Eclipse and “Blue Moon” Unite on January 31!

See something special early one Wednesday morning in January!

Take part in the excitement of a partial lunar eclipse and “blue moon” combo when Observatory Park hosts an opportunity to view this unique event early Wednesday, January 31st, 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.

Registration is not required to stop in and use our tricks to maximize your view of the eclipse as it sets. Cloudy skies will cancel the program; please just call 440-279-0820 before you come out to check the program’s status.

“Here in Ohio, we’ll only be able to see the beginning of the lunar eclipse, and it will occur just as the moon is setting in the west for us,” said Astronomy Naturalist “Astro-Nat” Chris Mentrek. “Even if conditions are perfect, we’ll only see about half of the eclipse by the time the moon sets.

“Yes, we faced the classic Programmer’s Dilemma here: do we view the event, knowing the results will be imperfect, or do we do nothing?” Mentrek continued. “But if Nature delivers both a blue moon and a partially visible eclipse on the same morning, we say come out and see what you can see – it could be a really nice way to start your Wednesday!”

For those wondering, Mentrek has posted a photo on Geauga Park District’s Facebook page of what the eclipse might look like to the local viewer. Observatory Park is located at 10610 Clay Street in Montville Township.
