Wildlife watchers and Nature enthusiasts love to swap stories about what they’ve seen out and about – from the most grandiose to the tiniest local discovery.
“Sitting quietly, peacefully blending into the landscape, allows us to observe the natural behavior of hawks, mink, fox, deer, chickadees and other critters instead of observing how they react to us,” said Naturalist Dottie Drockton. “Rewards for the investment of taking time to watch Nature unfold can be exhilarating and result in lifelong memories.”
Geauga Park District Executive Director John Oros, for instance, has fond memories of his time in a tree stand: a male Ruffed Grouse drumming right under him, an owl that flew just inches past his left ear.
If you have tales to tell about your experiences in a tree stand, or would enjoy listening to some, visit The West Woods Nature Center on Saturday, February 17th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a new kind of program we’d like to call Tales from the Tree Stand.
As we gather, folks who’ve observed Nature from a bird’s eye view high up in the treetops will be encouraged to share, while Geauga Park District provides a means for them to show photos or short videos to illustrate their stories. Please bring those on a flash drive so we can project them on the screen.
Registration is not required to participate. The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township and is fully wheelchair/stroller accessible. Please call 440-286-9516 with questions.
