Now, don’t just enjoy the springtime through the window. Get out into that fresh, spring air and reap its beauty with all of your senses!

Geauga Park District’s Weekly Wildflower Walks offer the perfect leisurely opportunity to visit different parks, experience colorful wildflowers as they appear throughout May and learn lots of impress-your-friends flower folklore to boot.

Spring will be on full display during the following Monday walks, all from 1 to 2:30 p.m.: April 27 at Big Creek Park (Deep Woods Shelter) in Chardon Township (these walkers receive free milkweed, too); May 4 at The Rookery in Munson Township; May 11 at Headwaters Park (Rt. 322 Parking Lot) in Claridon Township; May 18 at Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Park in Chesterland.

Naturalist Judy Bradt-Barnhart plans to guide, highlighting trout lily, various violet species, harbinger of spring, spring beauty, Soloman’s seal, wild geranium and more.

“We’ll share interesting folklore about the flowers,” said Judy, “including unusual pollination mechanisms, historical Native American and pioneer uses of them, and name origins.”

Weekly Wildflower Walks are all on level terrain. Registration is not required for these all-ages walks – just show up! With questions, please call 440-286-9516.

Pssst…! For flower fans extraordinaire, join us for more fascinating folklore and colorful spring wildflowers during the Spring Wildflower Folklore Hike on Sunday, May 3, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Beartown Lakes Reservation (North Point Shelter) in Auburn Township.
