Invasive species are not just found in natural areas. They’re all across the landscape – including in our own backyards! Join us for this unique Woodland Wednesdays program to learn techniques that you can use to combat invasive plants.
There are two options to participate: VIRTUAL ONLY or VIRTUAL + FIELD and registration is required for both. The virtual portion is Thursday, March 10 from 6:00-8:00 pm and will introduce you to invasive plants in our area and some common control methods. To register for the virtual program, visit woodlandwednesdaysmarch2022. eventbrite.com or call 440-350-2033.
For a fee you can attend the optional second field part of the program at the Mentor Marsh Nature Center on Saturday, March 12 (12:00-2:00 pm or 3:00-5:00 pm). This portion includes the identification of woody invasives, a demonstration of control methods you can use (even in the middle of winter!), and a chance to practice those methods. To register for the field program, visit www.cmnh.org/wicked-weeds- part-one or call 440-350-2033.
Featured speakers for both programs are Natalie Gertz-Young, Conservation Educator with Lake Soil & Water Conservation District and Becky Donaldson, Mentor Marsh Naturalist with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Don’t miss this opportunity to get the tools and resources to begin your backyard invasion of invasive plants! Collaborators include Natural Resources Conservation Service, Geauga, Lake, Ashtabula, Portage, and Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Division of Forestry, Farm Bureau, and Holden Forests and Gardens.
