The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are.
Checklists are accepted from anywhere in the world – so why not come out to The West Woods and help produce a tally for Geauga County? All ages are invited to join the count Friday through Monday, Feb. 12 through 15, anytime between noon and 4 p.m. for some warm bird watching at The West Woods’ awesome wildlife feeding window.
Attendees on Saturday, Feb. 13, only can also enjoy the Happy Bird Day activities including the armchair birding program (1:30-2:15 p.m.), a make-n-take birdseed ornament (1:30-4 p.m.), help count birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count (noon to 4 p.m.), and stroll out any time to the Bird in the Hand Feeding Station for an up-close encounter with chickadees
Folks will also be able to view results as they come in on our computer and learn from Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists which types of seeds and feeders are the most successful.

“People who care about birds can change the world,” said Audubon chief scientist Gary Langham. “Technology has made it possible for people everywhere to unite around a shared love of birds and a commitment to protecting them.”
