Youth Leadership is Thriving in Geauga County Schools

Parents, teachers and administrators should be very proud of the 147 young leaders who came together in Geauga Youth Led Prevention’s third annual Youth Summit this fall.

Each year our young leaders take on the challenge of learning the real facts about marijuana (2012), Heroin (2013), and risk factors that contribute to drug use and violence among their generation (2014).

This year’s theme “Be the Majority” featured and was led by college students, as well as several community members as motivational speakers. Members of student council, SADD, YLP, NHS and Interact clubs worked to transform the information from the day into an action plan for sharing what they learned with their home schools.

This year’s summit was supported by a Lake-Geauga Youth Led Prevention grant from Ohio Mental Health and Addiction services, which includes support and funding for in-school leadership activities as well as scholarship awards.

Berkshire Junior/Senior High School’s leadership group was recognized as the first winner of the “Be the Majority” leadership award for the best plan to affect positive change in their district, and share important information with their peers.
