Each year since 2001, Leadership Geauga County honors visionary and dedicated community leaders whose extraordinary work has significantly enhanced the quality of life in Geauga County. These individuals and organizations have given generously of their time and talents, and have worked to keep Geauga County the best place to live and work.

The Emerald Leader Award, Geauga County’s “Leader of the Year”, is presented to honor outstanding leadership and community impact through contributions that have enhanced the quality of life in Geauga County.

Just some of individuals who have been honored as Geauga County Emerald Leaders have included:

Jeff Keener, Bill Prior, Gordon Safran, Dick Moss, Kimm Leininger, Tom Benda, Paul Newman, Howard Bates, Deborah O’Connor, Chuck Fowler, Kathy Leavenworth, Ed Babcock, Richard Frenchie, Sheriff Dan McClelland and Kevin O’Reilly Sr. Organizations recognized include the Burton Middlefield Rotary Club and Geauga Humane Society/Rescue Village.

Leadership Geauga County is proud to announce that Scott Hildenbrand will be honored as the 2017 Emerald Leader.

Scott, currently a Hambden Township resident, has lived in Geauga County most of his life. Scott goes above and beyond what it means to be a public servant and has demonstrated what can happen when people and organizations work together. His nominator commented, “Chief (soon to be Sheriff) Hildenbrand has played an integral part in the safety forces here in Geauga – both on the law enforcement and fire protection side. Under his guidance the county has taken major steps in the way of communication and technological advancements – outpacing even the largest county populations.

Because he is looked on as the leader by both police and fire, the two distinct groups work almost seamlessly together for the protection of all Geauga.” In addition to his efforts and time spent as fire chief, Scott has served as Chief Deputy at the Geauga County Sherriff’s Office since 2003. Scott was recently elected and will serve as the next Geauga County Sherriff.

On March 4th at the Leadership Geauga Emerald Ball, sponsored by the Middlefield Banking Company, Scott will be formally recognized as the 2017 Emerald Leader!

To join in honoring Scott, attend Leadership Geauga’s annual Emerald Ball, scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Bertram Inn and Conference Center. Reservations can be made by calling Leadership Geauga (440) 286-8115 or at LeadershipGeauga.org
