Paddling across East Branch Reservoir aboard a canoe or kayak, one finds a special kind of quiet and calm – and this year, Geauga Park District was happy to facilitate this opportunity for thousands.
At Headwaters Park’s Boathouse, staff helped 3,286 people get out in boats June 2 through September 17. In fact, the addition of just one more canoe this year allowed close to 360 more people to get out onto the water than last year, according to Chief Naturalist John Kolar.
Claridon Woodlands’ high ropes course also had a great year, sending 1,213 people up into the treetops. Holds at the freeform boulder wall will stay up until late November.
“When people come to reserve a boat, they are ready to relax and explore,” Kolar said. “It’s such a pleasure for us to be able to provide self-guided Nature experiences to park patrons, particularly at no cost to Geauga residents. As this opportunity has gotten more popular, we also feel proud to have reached more Geauga residents than ever before with word that this offering is available to them, their friends and their families.
“Thanks to everyone who came out in 2019. We look forward to reopening the Boathouse for you in the spring!”
