Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Maple Leaf Community Residences’ (MLRC) 9th annual Raise-A-Roof. The theme “There’s No Place Like Home” commemorates the 75th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. The event takes place on Saturday September 27, 2014 at 6 pm in The Federated Church Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Rd. Chagrin Falls, OH. MLCR is a 501©3 Non-profit affiliated with Metzenbaum, providing homes for adults with developmental disabilities to enable independent living.
The event features an evening of culinary cuisine prepared by Christopher Borsi, Executive Chef at Cleveland’s Marriott Key Center. Entertainment will feature classic jazz from Buzz Cronquist Trio, magician Rick Smith, Jr, who has appeared on national TV. There will be an amazing silent auction including autographed memorabilia from sports legend Derek Jeter and Cleveland sports teams; a Chinese raffle, door prizes, and much more. The signature silent auction item is a trip to see the hit musical Wicked at a theater of your choice in the U.S. with air travel and hotel. There is also a 50/50 raffle which includes two round-trip coach tickets and cash split.
The event will raise funds to provide more housing for adults with developmental disabilities as well as home improvements and renovations. MLCR currently houses more than 70 people in 21 single-family homes, all in Geauga County. A long waiting list on file underscores the need for more homes.
“Many of our residents can no longer live at home due to the advanced age or death of their parents,” says Keith Werbeach, Executive Director of Maple Leaf Community Residences. “We alleviate some of these families’ worries by providing a safe environment for them to live. It is imperative that Maple Leaf expand as our population continues to grow and age.”
Tickets are $50 a person, which includes dinner, dessert, and soft drinks. Cash bar and an eclectic wine pull will also be staged, courtesy of World Wines & Liquor of Ohio.
