Meet members of the Park District’s camera club – and consider joining
Just as motion is the theme of Geauga Park District’s upcoming exhibit, Something’s Afoot: Nature Just Can’t Stay Put, it is also the theme of a new art display by the Park District’s camera club.
If you enjoy photography, come have some refreshments and check it out – and if you enjoy taking photos, allow opening day to serve as an opportunity to consider joining the club yourself.
What: Meet the Artists: Shutterbugs Camera Club
When: Sunday, October 27 – 2 to 4 p.m.
Where: The West Woods Nature Center
9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87), Russell Township
Featured photographers will be on hand this afternoon to chat about their photography and participation in the club which meets every first Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center. Their artwork will remain on display through February 2014.
Shutterbugs membership varies from school-age to senior citizen and includes all skill levels: from novice with a simple point-and-shoot to professional. However, don’t be intimidated; meetings generally attract between 30 and 40 people.
Even Bruce Bennett, the club’s president, admits, “I was a photographer for a long time, but I learned more from joining the club than I would ever believe.”
Each meeting begins with announcements and a monthly instructional session, on a variety of photography topics. Then, after a break for refreshments, members gather around a long table and take turns critiquing each other’s work (one 8×10 print per photographer) – a portion equal parts complimentary comments and construction criticism, but all in the spirit of growth and positivity.
Upcoming club programming, which is also posted under the Things To Do tab on our website with more detail, is as follows:
November 7: Competition Night: Frozen Water & People in Action
December 5: Holiday Pot Luck
All meetings are wheelchair/stroller accessible. Neither registration nor dues are required to get involved – just show up, but please bring a piece according to the theme on the website for the critique. With questions, call 440-279-0803 or email Sandy Ward at sward@geaugaparkdistrict.org.
