Help Build Warbler Nest Boxes at March 29 Workshop

You can help build nest boxes for the colorful Prothonotary Warbler at a March 29, 2014 workshop at Western Reserve Land Conservancy’s Center for Conservation, 3850 Chagrin River Road, Moreland Hills.

Dan Best, senior naturalist for the Geauga Park District, will lead the workshop, which runs from 10 a.m. to noon. It is open to adults and children, and all materials are supplied. Workshop space is limited; you can reserve a spot by contacting Kim Bihler at (440) 528-4162 or kbihler@wrlandconservancy.org.

Best will give a short presentation on the Prothonotary Warbler, a cavity nester whose populations are declining over much of their historic breeding range in response to degradation and destruction of lowland forests and associated wetlands. Workshop participants will then head outside for a hike on the Land Conservancy’s grounds and a demonstration on how to install a nest box.

There is no charge to participate. Donations are appreciated. For more information, call (440) 528-4162.

The Land Conservancy is based in Moreland Hills and has field offices in Cleveland, Akron, Medina, Oberlin, Chardon, and Orrville.
