Protect Geauga Parks is hosting another Conversations on Conservation event that will be held on March 29 from 2 – 4 p.m. at West Geauga Library.
Harvey Webster of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will be bringing live birds of prey and discussing the comeback of the Eagle.
At the time of European contact in the 1600s, the Bald Eagle enjoyed a range that encompassed most of North America. Yet, over the intervening years it endured such persecution, habitat loss and degradation that by the 1970s its breeding range had contracted to only a handful of states and its numbers had withered. The banning of certain pesticides, intensive management, vigorous protection and enforcement of endangered species laws, as well as the conservation of wetlands, have brought about a renaissance of this noble raptor. In this illustrated program, we will chronicle the history of the Bald Eagle in Ohio and celebrate its return.
Harvey Webster has been affiliated with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for over 50 years and currently serves as Director of Wildlife Resources and Honorary Co-chair of the Museum’s Centennial Campaign.
