Open Rehearsals Start Soon for Great Geauga County Fair Band

Fair Band Auditions

Greg Hillis, director of the Great Geauga County Fair Band, is currently looking for adventuresome musicians, ages 15 and older, to help entertain thousands of Northeast Ohio residents this summer. The all-volunteer concert band will be kicking off its 77th season on March 24 at 7:30 p.m., when musicians gather for their first rehearsal of 2015 in the Berkshire High School band room.

Hillis continues to expand the band’s exciting repertoire this season, with popular favorites that include tunes from the blockbuster film Frozen and Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. The band will also be introducing a lesser known Sousa march, New York Hippodrome and some classic Rogers and Hammerstein numbers from the Great American Songbook.

Hillis explains, “This band is much more than marches. We are constantly looking for exciting new pieces that energize our performers and our audiences. Exploring challenging compositions, like this year’s addition, “Hymn to the Fallen”, which is taken from John Williams’ score for Saving Private Ryan, helps keep all our musicians fresh and motivated.”

If music is your passion, consider visiting an open rehearsal session any Tuesday evening this spring, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.; locations vary so call 440.299.7872 for details. To learn more about the band and the 2015 season, visit www.geaugafairband.com.
