The Chardon Board of Education and the Chardon Education Association (CEA) hosted the school district’s Annual Recognition Dinner at St. Denis Party Center on May 4.

The event recognizes select volunteers for their outstanding service to the district and highlights educators at significant milestones in their careers. In particular, the event honors those who are retiring from the school district.

Dr. Michael Hanlon presented the “Superintendent’s Award” to Geauga United Way Director and longtime school supporter Kimm Leininger. The recognition focused on Mrs. Leininger’s support of the district in the wake of the tragic school shooting on 2/27/2012. From coordinating the immediate and ongoing mental health response to organizing and administrating the Chardon Healing Fund, she continues to actively support the district as a true partner in every sense of the word.

Chardon Education Association President Tammy Segulin honored Eric and Debbie Reiter with CEA’s “Friend of Education” Award. The yearly award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Chardon Schools.

The Reiters have been fixtures in the Chardon Schools for years. Eric is a recently retired educator and Debbie is a long-time school volunteer. Mr. Reiter, a beloved Hambden 4th grade teacher, now substitutes in the school, much to the delight of students and staff alike. Mrs. Reiter, who currently serves on Chardon City Council, was actively involved in Chardon school activities for many years, giving of her time and talents to the PTO’s, and numerous special classroom projects and extra-curriculars. She continues to be a staunch supporter of public education.
