After a weekend of head-to-head Pokémon video game battles, Emma Cox earned the esteemed title of Pokémon Winter Regional Champion at the 2016 Pokémon Winter Regional Championships held in Doswell, VA, on February 13 and 14.
Emma is among only five Junior Division Winter Regional video game Champions from across the U.S. to earn the title. Marking the first major Organized Play event of 2016, the Winter Regional Championships helped kick-off a year-long celebration, commemorating 20 years of the iconic Pokémon brand.
Along with the esteemed title, Emma also earned valuable Championship Points that count toward a potential invite to 2016 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, CA, this August. Players that achieve a top Championship Points ranking following the U.S. National Championships in Columbus, OH, this July will earn a spot to compete among the most elite players from more than 30 countries at the Pokémon World Championships.
“The Organized Play event series is perhaps the best example of how Pokémon has positively influenced millions of people worldwide for two decades. Bringing together trainers of all ages from all walks of life, events such as the Winter Regional Championships provide an opportunity for players to connect to their local community and compete among friends in a supportive and fun environment,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokémon Company International.
“Thank you to all the players that participated in this tournament and congratulations to those that took home the esteemed title of Winter Regional Champion. We look forward to following each trainer as they continue their journey through the Championship series, culminating in what should the largest and most
exciting World Championships ever.”
