Through the combined efforts of Leadership Geauga and the Lake & Geauga Area Association of Realtors, a beautiful marker was created to educate the community on the history of Fullertown.
“Heritage Day was my first real exposure to Geauga County and its rich history. As we drove through Fullertown, some of the history of the town was shared and Dr. Bob stated that there isn’t even a small sign or marker identifying this community. So began the initiative…….” Samir D. Gautam, Leadership Geauga Class of 2016
Fullertown, now a part of Newbury Township, was a thriving community stimulated by a logging industry. This community, established about 1821, included a school, post office, doctor’s office, corn/wheat mill, saw mill, cloth dressing shop, and woolen factory.
The Leadership Geauga Class of 2016 will be installing the sign commemorating Fullertown on October 21st at 10:30 am. The ceremony will take place at 13886 Sperry Rd, Newbury, Ohio 44065.
“Leadership Geauga works to develop leaders who care deeply about Geauga County. This collaboration is a demonstration of our commitment to positive community impact. We are proud that our participants saw an opportunity to celebrate the history of Fullertown and acted to benefit our community. We welcome the community to join us at the sign installation” Melanie Scanlon, Executive Director- Leadership Geauga
A placemaking micro-grant from the National Association of Realtors made this project a reality. Jennifer Allen, 2016 LGAAR President. “Placemaking can help foster healthier, more social and economically viable communities. It creates places where people feel a strong stake in their neighborhoods and are committed to their history. This grant will allow us to help our community highlight its 200th Anniversary, which is quite an accomplishment. We are happy to help create a place where friends and neighbors can recognize the pride the residents have in their town.”
We encourage all residents to stop by Fullertown and learn a little more about the history in our own back yard!
