Enjoy the Fall Season at Observatory Park with Nassau Night Sky Viewing, “The Planets” and the Super Sun

Geauga Park District’s Observatory Park in Montville Township is open daily 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. Labor Day through Memorial Day, and Naturalist (“Astro-Nat”) Chris Mentrek is eager to show you around this International Dark Sky Park during the following upcoming programs this fall.

Naturalist-led night sky viewings continue at the recently renovated Nassau Astronomical Station, with its huge research-grade telescope, these Saturdays from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.:

  • October 13th
  • 20th (with the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society)
  • October 27th
  • November 10th
  • November 17th (with the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society)
  • December 15th
  • December 29th

Enjoy full moon programs on these dates:

  • Wednesday, October 24th – The Hunter’s Moon, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 24th (The Beaver Moon, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 22nd – The Buck Moon, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by night sky viewing until 11:00 p.m. if weather permits.

Hour-long hands-on astronomy education will be presented these Fridays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.:

  • October 12th
  • October 26th – Ohio’s Ancient Sky-Watchers
  • November 9th – Make a Particle Detector
  • December 14th
  • December 28th – The Southern Sky, again followed by night sky viewing until 11:00 p.m. if weather permits.

Parents can now register their children ages 3-5 at Geauga Park District or 440-286-9516 for Astrotots: Super Sun, about the incredible super powers of the sun, on Friday, November 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Saturday, November 3rd, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

And finally, “Astro-Nat” Chris will open the Robert McCullough Science Center and Oberle Observatory these Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., all featuring The Sky Tonight Planetarium Shows at 2:00 p.m.:

  • October 14th – Special this season, the planetarium show will feature a musical theme to mark the 100th anniversary of composer Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”!
  • October 28th
  • November 11th
  • November 25th
  • December 16th
  • Decmeber 30th
