Annual Tourism Meeting Reveals New Destination Geauga

Dessert Dash

They came for the 2014 highlights, the new Visitor Guides, the decadent desserts, and to find out why they are no longer members of Geauga County Tourism. On January 28, over 100 Geauga County business owners gathered for the Annual Geauga County Tourism meeting.

After networking and a light dinner, new Board Members were voted in by the membership. The group then heard highlights from 2014 by Tourism Director Lynda Nemeth, including information about the RUBY award won for the new Mobile App, the printing of the first Geauga Amish Country Magazine, receiving the highest bed tax check to date, the successful filming of two hours of New Day Cleveland in Geauga County, and completing the Feasibility Study toward additional lodging in the county.

The final announcement made by Nemeth was about the rebranding of Geauga County Tourism. To better identify the total package Geauga has to offer, the office has rebranded to “Destination Geauga”. This was met with great approval by the membership, who feel that it is a great start to the new year! The new 2015 Visitor Guides were distributed sporting the new brand, and the new website will be live shortly.

To celebrate, the 100+ Destination Geauga Members took part in a Dessert Dash, where each table worked together to bid on amazing desserts donated by members, and then had to ‘dash’ to retrieve their choice. Desserts ranged from Luscious Lemon & Blueberry Cake to Cannoli Cake; Raspberry Cheesecake to Bailey’s Irish Cream Cheesecake. Each dessert was more impressive than the next, and no one left hungry.

After desserts were served, four featured speakers each gave quick, five-minute overviews on upcoming co-op projects for 2015 to get new marketing options generated amongst membership.

Be sure to pick up your new Destination Geauga Visitor Guide at the Tourism Office, or one of the many literature racks around the County. If you are out of the area and would like a Guide mailed to you, please contact the office by calling 440-632-1538 or emailing info@tourgeauga.com. We hope you make Geauga your destination soon!
