Become Part of Something More: Meet Payton

Payton YMCA

Eight-year-old Payton loves the water. As a child with moderate autism, he needed special help to learn how to swim. His mother, Tracy, found out that the Y offered swim lessons for children with special needs.

Payton began swim lessons with Swim Instructor David Kich. Here is what Tracy has to say about the experience:

“This truly has been a great experience for Payton and the family as a whole. I don’t want him to feel left out. You have someone like Dave who cares about your child, took an interest and is willing to help. So often you get ‘no’ or an outrageous price. This helped my family because he can experience the same things as everybody else.”

The benefits of becoming a member of The Y are immense. With a focus on developing the potential of kids, like Payton, improving individual health and well being, and giving back and supporting the community, The Y offers you the opportunity to change things within yourself and within our community.

The Y’s impact on Northeast Ohio is one that is unprecedented. Our members, volunteers, staff and generous donors really make the difference and allow The Y to have such a great impact on the community. Giving to the Geauga Family YMCA helps young people achieve their potential, empower people of all ages to lead healthier lives and strengthen the bonds between six counties in Northeast Ohio.
