Cardinal Local Schools held its annual Spelling Bee on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
Sixth grader Brooke Swontek won the event after correctly spelling, “berserk” in the seventh round of the competition. “I feel good, I studied a lot,” Swontek said after being named the winner.

Swontek was one of 25 Intermediate and Middle school students participating in the Spelling Bee. The top spellers from each class in third through eighth grades all took part in the event. With the win, Swontek will now go on to compete in the County Spelling Bee in February.
The runner-up in this event was eighth grader Jacob Volante. Volante would take Swontek’s place in the County Spelling Bee should she not be able to compete.
