Come one, come all, to Geauga Park District’s Frozen Fest for an afternoon of pure, unadulterated winter fun – no registration necessary and completely free!
The big event happens Sunday, February 1, from noon to 4 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87) in Russell Township.
This is our first-ever Frozen Fest, but we’re still going above and beyond to make sure it’s the best Frozen Fest we’ve ever had. What we have planned:
Inside the Nature Center
- Opening reception for the Frozen Artistry community art show – Where the objective is capturing ice and snow as Nature’s wintertime art
- Return to the Ice Age exhibit – Featuring real Ice Age bones from Geauga County
- Elaborate face painting
- Photo booth with winter props
- Guest appearances by “Ice Princesses”
- Live harp music
- Winter-themed crafts – Make a snowman magnet using bottle caps (fun for all ages) or paint with ice! It’s amazing what just a little frozen water and food coloring can create…just add creativity!
- Hourly puppet shows
- Free snowman ice scrapers for adults
- Free refreshments including snowflake cookies, blue popcorn, hot cocoa bar and coffee
- Nature Store featuring winter-themed merchandise
Outside the Nature Center
- Native American snowsnakes game – How far can you make a wooden snowsnake glide over the snow?
- Snowball “shooting gallery” – Nope, not a snowball fight with moving human targets, but big fun with a variety of target objects!
- Free snowshoe rental
- Hourly winter hikes
- Bird in the Hand opportunity – Are you a chickadee magnet? In order to feed wild birds by hand, follow the signs to “Parker,” a mannequin who keeps the birds familiar with humans, and follow the instructions. Groups of 3-4 work best.
- Meet-n-greet with sled dogs by the Siberian Husky Club of Greater Cleveland
- Ice sculptures demo & finished sculpture displays
In case it’s needed, a shuttle will also be present from noon to 4:30 p.m. to transport people from the outer lots and ASM to The West Woods Nature Center.
No registration is required to attend. Just call 440-286-9516 with questions – and spread the word to interested family and friends!
