- It’s hard, challenging, and rewarding
- It’s expressive
- It builds character
- It can be a lifelong pursuit
- It’s limitless!
And it’s in Chardon!
Jeanette Meyer is the owner and artistic director of Dance on South Street in Chardon. She grew up in Chesterland, Ohio and began what became her dance career at age 10, dancing with the New York City Ballet in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards and has danced professionally with the Mesa Civic and Ballet Arizona. Jeanette retired at age 29 and has been teaching in her own studio in Chardon since 1999.
One of the things I appreciate about this dance studio is the progression and division of ballet classes offered. Beginning at age three with the introductory Creative Dance Class, your child will progress through not just one or two beginning ballet levels, but through a series of levels, very methodically, in age brackets that do not span the universe! After Beginning Ballet I and II, advancement occurs on an instructor invite basis, assuring that students are truly prepared for the next level. Classes are for both the recreational dancer as well as the more serious dancers who may ultimately audition to become a part of the Dance Company.
Dance’s studio has a custom-made, cushioned floor designed to protect the students’ joints and muscle structures. Walls are mirrored and have stationary and portable barres. The lobby is spacious with a large observation window, couches, television, and homework area.
September 5 marks their 14th year of offering dance classes! Many new additions have been added over the years, often with waiting lists in tow. Good dance instruction is not so easy to come by once outside of the immediate Cleveland area, so take advantage of your local business and sign your child and yourself up for one of the many classes that Jeanette has created.
